10 lakh yaba tablets seized in Ctg

Members of the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) detained four people with 10 lakh yaba tablets from the outer anchorage of the Chittagong Port in the Bay of Bengal early yesterday. They also detained the owner of the trawler that was carrying the tablets.
The RAB estimated the price of the yaba tablets to be around Tk. 40 crore.
The arrested were identified as Md Abdul Salam (55), Md Shafique (35), Abdur Rahim Sharma (30) and Md Kamal (42). All of them were arrested from the fishing boat, FV Emon-F-964, which was taking the yaba tablets from Myanmar to Chittagong.
Acting on the information disclosed by them, the RAB also arrested Joynal Abedin (25), Md Sayed Alam (30), Md Mafiz (30) and Md Islam Mamun (27).
Of them, Sayed Alem is the son of son of Abdul Malek, the owner of the boat.
“We had information that some smugglers were bringing in large hauls of yaba tablets from Myanmar to Chittagong by a fishing trawler. On Tuesday, we got to know that FV Emon-F-964 was carrying the consignment,” said Lt Col Miftah Uddin Ahmed, commanding officer of RAB-7.
On Tuesday, a team of RAB, led by Miftah Uddin Ahmed, chased the trawler around 11pm at the outer anchorage of the Chittagong Port in the Bay of Bengal. The chase continued till the early hours, when they detained the four persons and seized the yaba tablets.
Between January 1, 2015 to January 6, 2016, RAB-7 has seized 4,271,092 contraband yaba tablets.
