State-owned cellular phone operator Teletalk would introduce new logo in February as part of rebranding process towards turning it into a profitable entity.
“Teletalk will go for rebranding for business purpose. As part of the process, new logo of the operator would be introduced in February,” State Minister for Posts and Telecommunications Division Tarana Halim said yesterday.
The State minister made the announcement at a press conference at ministry office that organised for marking two years of the second term of the present Awami League led grand alliance government.
She also hoped the operator would be profitable organisation through the rebranding process.
Teletalk had introduced 3G service nearly one year ago in comparison with the private operators, but it had failed to grab the advantages.
To this end, Posts and Telecommunications Division Secretary Faizur Rahman Chowdhury told the newsmen that the state-owned operator owns only 4 per cent of the total investment in the telecommunication sector while the remaining 96 per cent by the private operators.
Echoing the secretary, Tarana Halim opined that “it is very tough for Teletalk to compete with the private operators owning such small investment.”
She said they are looking for foreign investment or assistance for the Teletalk.
The state minister hoped Teletalk would develop its overall scenario after the introduction of mobile number portability (MNP).
Tarana thanked the operator as it has already developed top-up (balance recharge system) and quality of services.
Commenting of the appointment of new managing director for the Teletalk, she said “An advertisement was floated few days ago regarding the appointment, but later it has been cancelled. Qualified and eligible person would be appointed for the post of managing director.”
Telecom regulator’s statistics showed that Teletalk has nearly 40 lakh customer base where total mobile phone users in Bangladesh have reached over 13 crore.
