Schoolteacher shot dead

Cox’s Bazar: A schoolteacher was shot to death and his brother injured by criminals at Mohammad Sharif Para in Ramu upazila early yesterday, reports UNB.
The deceased was identified as Mohammad Nurussofa,29, a teacher of Barobil Government Primary School and a resident of the area. Police said a gang of criminals entered the house of Nurussofa by breaking open the door while he was sleeping at about 2 am. They opened fire on Nurussofa and hurriedly left the scene, leaving him dead on the spot and his brother Mohammad Nurunnabi injured. Informed, police recovered the body and sent it to Cox’s Bazar Sadar Hospital morgue for an autopsy. Local people caught one Jasim,27, on suspicion of the killing and handed over him to police.
A case was filed in this connection.

Langadu declared dowry free
RANGAMATI: Langadu upazila under Rangamati district with a population of over 30,000 was declared as the new upazila free from early marriage and dowry, reports BSS.
Langadu upazila parishad chairman Tofazzal Hussein formally made the announcement yesterday at a function organised at the upazila parishad auditorium.
Public representatives, marriage registers, mosques Imams, parents, teachers of local school, madrassas and colleges and guardians were present on the occasion.
Upazila Nirbahi Officer of the upazila Nizamuddin attended the ceremony as special guest with president of school managing committee Ziaur Rahman Juwel in the chair.

17 fined for smoking in public
Kishoreganj: A mobile court in a drive fined 17 people
for smoking in public on the premises of the Deputy Commissioner’s office and Chief Metropolitan Magistrate’s Court in the district town on Tuesday noon, reports UNB.
During the drive, the mobile court fined each person Tk50 for smoking in open places violating the existing law against smoking in public.

Anti-drug drive continues
GAIBANDHA: Month long anti-drug drive and campaign has been continuing in the district since January 1 with a slogan ‘Say no to drug and give up using drugs’, reports BSS.
Office sources said Department of Narcotics Control (DNC) under the Home Ministry took an initiative to conduct the anti-drug drive and campaign across the country from January 1 to January 31. The objective of the drive and campaign is to create much awareness among all and to build drug free society to protect the people particularly the young generation from deadly aggression of the drugs.
