Youth electrocuted
A youth was electrocuted while charging his mobile phone at his residence at Muradpur area under Pahchlish thana of Chittagong city on Tuesday night.
The deceased was Mobarak Hossain, 22, a residence of Billkhana road under Pahchlish thana of the city.
Nayak Pankaj Barua of police outpost sources at Chittagong Medical College Hospital (CMCH) said Mobarak was electrocuted while charging his mobile phone at his residence at Muradpur area under Pahchlish thana at 11.40 pm last night. He was rushed to CMCH where the attending doctors declared him dead.

2 sweetmeat factories fined
A mobile court in Chittagong on Tuesday fined two sweetmeat manufactures fined Tk 30 lakh for producing sweets in an unhygienic condition, mixing harmful ingredients with products. The court, led by Executive Magistrate Sarwar Alam of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) headquarters, conducted a drive at Sher Shah of Bayezid area and Bibirhat under Panchlish police station.
The court fined the owner of Banoful Tk 15 lakh for producing sweets in unhygienic environment and mixing artificial sweetener.  The Modhubon was fined Tk 15 lakh for mixing harmful ingredients with foods and putting advance production date in packets label, said Sarwar Alam, the magistrate.

JS body on public accounts holds meeting

The Parliamentary Committee on Public Accounts on Tuesday discussed progress in the implementation of the decisions taken by the committee on the audit objections in the annual audit reports of the comptroller and auditor general (CAG) on the purchase, storage and distribution of goods by Bangladesh Railway from fiscals 2006-07 to 2008-09. The committee held the discussion at its 41st meeting held at the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban with its Chairman Dr Mohiuddin Khan Alamgir presiding, said an official release. Committee members M Abdus Shahid, Panchanan Biswas, AFM Ruhul Haq, M Afsarul Amin, Begum Rokeya Momin, M. Shamsul Haq Tuku, AKM Maidul Islam, M Rustam Ali Farazi attended the meeting.

Farmers rally held at BARI
A field day and farmers rally was held at Bangladesh Agricultural Research Institute (BARI) in Gazipur yesterday.
Pesticide toxicology research project of Entomology division of Bangladesh Agricultural Research Institute (BARI) organised  the farmers rally to display research programmes and the recently invented technology to the farmers. Director General of Bangladesh Agricultural Research Institute (BARI) Dr Mohammed Rafikul Islam Mondol inaugurated the programme as the chief guest.

Warm clothes distributed
Footsteps Foundation, a Dhaka-based youth empowered social business based organisation, distributed huge warm clothes among cold-stricken people of Rangpur during the past two days. Volunteers of the organisation launched the programme 'A Heartwarming
Winter 2016' this year for the third consecutive time to assist the poor, distressed and underprivileged people adapt to the bitter cold through collecting and distributing warm clothes. Earlier, the Footsteps volunteers collected the winter donations from different houses and offices in Gulshan and Banani areas of capital city Dhaka on 26th December last.
Carrying by a truck, volunteers of the organisation donated their collected warm clothes among thousands of people in Rangpur district on Monday and Tuesday last.
