Dhaka University Professor Emirates Dr Anisuzzaman yesterday said social resistance is mandatory to check militancy and terrorism across the country, reports BSS. “Reform in education and building mass-awareness are must to build social resistance against militancy and terrorism,” he told a roundtable conference at the National Press Club. Anisuzzaman said the country is now at the door of a new crisis due to emergence of extremism and terrorism subsequently the return of communal forces and militant outfits in Bangladesh. War Crimes Fact Finding Committee organised the seminar on “Social Resistance to Combat Militancy-Terrorism”. Convenor of the committee MA Hasan presented the keynote paper. “The real Bangladesh wouldn’t live long, if we fail to build up social resistance to this end,” he observed. Anisuzzaman also called for stopping the sources of finance and arms supplying from outside of the country. University Grants Commission (UGC) Chairman Abdul Mannan, Director (News) of Bangladesh Television Nasir Ahmed, Islamic Scholar Maulana Fariduddin Masud, Security Analyst Major General (Retd) Abdur Rashid and Major Gen (retd) Mohamamd Ali Shikdar, among others, took part in the discussion.
