RUET launches new department

RAJSHAHI: One more department at Rajshahi University of Engineering and Technology (RUET) has started its journey to meet the demands of present competitive world. In preliminary stage, the newly launched Chemical and Food Process Engineering (CFPE) department has accommodated 30 brilliant students in the current 2015-16 academic session, a RUET press release here said yesterday.
The CFPE has been incorporated in the faculty of Mechanical Engineering. It is expected that the department will play an effective role towards producing competent manpower in the field of food processing in the country. Prof Dr Nirendra Nath Mustafi, dean of Mechanical Engineering Faculty, was appointed as founder chairman of the department. Opening the new department Vice-chancellor Rafiqul Alam Beg said the country is going towards digitization with competent leadership of the present government. So, the new departments will supplement the government endeavors. Besides, the initiative will play due role towards innovating time-befitting technology in terms of safe food preservation and processing, he added.

AIUB architecture week begins
A four-day ‘AIUB Architecture Week 2016’ on celebration of 10 years of Architecture Department of American International University – Bangladesh (AIUB) began on the campus on Monday, says a press release. GM Jainul Abedin Bhuiya, chairman of Rajdhani Unnayan Kartripakkha (Rajuk), was the chief guest in the inauguration session at AIUB auditorium. Vice Chancellor Dr Carmen Z Lamagna, Registrar MA Quaiyum, Dean (Faculty of Engineering) ABM Siddique Hossain, Dean (Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences) Tazul Islam, Director ( Finance & Accounts) Khondaker Sabbir Mohd Kabir, Director (Students Affairs) Manzur H Khan, Director (Public Relations) Md Lutfar Rahman, President of Institute of Architects of Bangladesh Architect Abu Sayeed M Ahmed; were also present, among others. The four-day eventful programme includes international student design competition, lectures and workshops by local and international experts, student work exhibition, publications, cultural programme.
