Ctg fire kills one; shops, houses gutted

A man was killed of inhaling smoke and three others were injured while a fire broke out at a building of Sugandha Residential area under Panchlaish Police Station in Chittagong city on Monday night. The deceased was Abu Taher Chowdhury, 78, a resident of Sugandha Road no.1 House no. 107. The injured others are - Md Faruk, 45, Jahanar Najnin, 38, and Mohhiuddin, 8. All the four are members of a family. Bishwashanta Barua, an operator of Agrabadh Fire Service Station, said the fire was originated from electric short-circuit that gutted valuables worth around Tk 300,000 of the flat.
Md Hamid, Nayek of Chittagong Medical College Hospital (CMCH) police outpost, said “Four people were admitted to the CMCH around 12am on Tuesday. Of them, Taher was declared dead by on duty doctors while he was rushed to the hospital. The injured trio is now out of danger.”
In another incident of fire at Bakalia area gutted two houses and three shops. The fire was originated from an electric short-circuit and the fire gutted valuables worth around Tk400, 000, said fire service sources. BSS adds from CHITTAGONG: A fire service worker was killed in a road accident in Sitakunda Bazar area under Sitakund upazila of the district Monday noon. The deceased was Mohorrom Ali, 29, hailed from Monohorganj of Comilla. Police said Mohorrom, a cook of Sitakunda Fire Service Station, was critically injured as a passenger bus ran over him in the area when he went to the market.
