No charge-sheet in 8 months

It’s been eight months since progressive blogger Ananta Bijoy Das was murdered, but the police are yet to submit a chargesheet.Police have made no visible progress in the case. Hearing has been deferred thrice—twice because the case document did not reach the metropolitan magistrate's court from the Sylhet metropolitan session judge’s court, and once because Farabi Shofiur Rahman, who was the main accused in the blogger Rajib murder case and later shown arrested in connection with Ananta's murder, was not present.
Police have so far arrested 12 people for their suspected involvement in the killing. They are Idris Ali, Mannan Rahi, Mohimin Noman, Abul Khayer, Sadek Ali Metu, Towhidur Rahman, Ashikul Mollik, Ariful Haque, Jakirul Haque, Dulal Bishwas, Abul Hasan and Jafran Hasan. Apart from Dulal, Abul and Jafran, the rest are currently in custody. The trio was, however, shown arrested when they were produced before the court on November 4.  Of the 12, Mannan Rahi apparently confessed to his involvement in the killing. On September 3, the court recorded his confessional statement under Section 164. However, his father claimed in a press conference that his son was not involved in the murder.
Local photo journalist Idris Ali was granted bail. On October 19, Sylhet metropolitan magistrate Anwarul Haque deferred the hearing again as documents of the case had still not reached the court. On October 4, the case had been deferred for the same reason. In the last week of September, the case document had been transferred to the metropolitan sessions court from the metropolitan magistrate court-2 after accused Mohimin Noman filed a case.
