Dec inflation rises slightly to 6.10pc

The countrys general point to point inflation rate in December slightly increased to 6.10 percentage point from 6.05 percentage point in November 2015 due to the rising trend of the non-food inflation.
The point to point food inflation, however, came down to 5.48 percentage point in December, 2015 which was 5.72 percentage point in November, 2015, according to the latest Consumer Price Index data of Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS).
Planning Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal after the ECNEC meeting said the point to point non-food inflation rate increased to 7.05 percentage point in December, 2015 up from 6.56 percentage point in November, 2015.
More consumption of non-food items during the Christmas, Victory Day, and the year end apart from tourism has pushed the inflation slightly up in December, Kamal explained.
He said that the food inflation rate in December did not increase as the supply chain was good.
Planning Minister is hopeful to bring down the overall inflation rate within 6.2 per cent in the current fiscal.
Besides, the general point to point inflation rate at the urban level slightly increased to 7.07 per cent in December while it was 5.58 per cent at the rural level.
At the rural level, the food inflation also declined to 4.76 per cent, down from 5 per cent in the previous month, while the non-food inflation increased to 7.10 per cent in December as against 6.76 per cent in November.
In urban areas, the food inflation also declined to 7.14 per cent in December, down from 7.42 per cent in November.
The non-food inflation rate, has however stood at 6.98 per cent in December which was 6.29 per cent in November.
The national wage index rate witnessed a 7.91 per cent growth in December with 132.58 point against 7.09 per cent growth with 132.37 point in November.
The average year- to- year rate of inflation from January 2015 to December 2015 stood at 6.20 per cent, which was 6.99 per cent from January 2014 to December 2014.
