Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF) has taken a positive step to introduce Bangladesh Super League, a franchisee football league, as it has signed a 15-year MoU with SAIF Powertec as the sponsor of the league.
Most likely the first edition of Bangladesh Super League (BSL) will get underway across the country at the end of this year. The sponsor company would pay Taka 35 crore for the 15-year deal.
BFF president Kazi Mohammad Salahuddin and Chairman of SAIF Powertec Tarafdar Ruhul Amin signed the MoU on behalf of their respective sides.
The BFF chief said that they are yet to finalise the number of teams but they are thinking of organising the BSL with six to eight teams.
Tarafdar Ruhul Amin said that initially they decided to hold the matches in four venues across the country. The SAIF is interested to stage matches in Dhaka, Chittagong, Rajshahi and Sylhet and they are also considering Barisal and Khulna on condition of flood light.
Commerce Minister Tofail Ahmed, who had a bright background as a sports man in his boyhood (student life) said, “In my school life I was the captain of the Bhola Government High School team, I was also a sprinter, during the college and university life and I was also the in-charge of sports of my hall.”
“I am a passionate sports lover, specially football, so I will request to Prime Minister and the Finance Minister for a separate budget for the development of country’s football.”
Tofail Ahmed, who attended the signing ceremony as chief guest, also urged the leading corporate houses of the country to come forward to patronize and for development of football in the country,
Meanwhile on behalf of BFF and also the SAIF Powertec demanded of renovation of the stadiums including flood light.
Deputy Minister for youth and sports Arif Khan Joy, also the former national football team’s captain, said that he will buy a franchisee team while Salam Murshedi will also buy a team.
