Construction of 4 drains at Tk 25 cr launched

Construction works of 17.47-kilometre long four drainage systems at the cost of Tk 25.05 crore have begun at different areas under five wards in the city, reports BSS. Mayor of Rangpur City Corporation (RCC) Alhaj Sarfuddin Ahmed Jhantu launched construction of the drainage systems by unveiling plaques in separate ceremonies at different areas of the city on Sunday afternoon as the chief guest.
City Councilors Mahbubar Rahman Manju, Sekendar Ali, Akram Hossain, Hafiz Ahmmed Chhuttu, Nurunnabi Fulu and Shafikul Islam Dalal, Female City Councilors Hasna Banu and Manjuri Begum attended the ceremonies as the special guests.
The RCC has been implementing construction works of the drainage systems under the City Governance Project with financial assistance of the Government of Bangladesh and Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).
The Local Government and Engineering Department (LGED) has been assisting RCC in implementing construction works of the drainage systems at different areas under ward numbers 19, 21, 23, 24 and 25 of the city as the Executing Agency.
Under the package, construction of the 5.35-kilometre long drainage systems from Shapla Chattar to Senpara via Dhaka Coach Stand, Adarsha Para and Shyamasundari Canal, 5.48-kilometre long drainage systems from Jahaz Company Mour to Satmatha, 2.4-kilometre long drainage systems from Paira Chattar to Mistripara via Central Road and 4.24-kilometre long drainage systems from Sotapeer Mazar to Haragachh Road via Jalkar, KD Canal and Jummapara Mosque are being constructed in the city.
On the occasions, Jhantu, also a valiant freedom fighter, said construction works of the drainage systems, roads, culverts, power and water supply systems are being properly implemented in the city as per a master plan ensuring quality of the infrastructures.
He directed all concerned for timely completion of the construction works of the drainage systems and cautioned for taking stern actions if any irregularities were found while conducting the infrastructural development works.
The City Mayor also sought cooperation of the citizens for ensuring quality of the infrastructural development works to turn Rangpur into an eco-friendly, modern and beautiful city ensuring adequate civic services, facilities and amenities
