Separate lane for bicycle riders

RAJSHAHI: Rajshahi City Corporation (RCC) is going to construct separate lane along the city streets for unhindered bicycle riding by the children including the juveniles and adolescents in the city, reports BSS. In preliminary stage, RCC will construct a lane from Fire Brigade crossing to C&B crossing under its 'Zero Soil Project'. RCC former mayor AHM Khairuzzaman Liton and present mayor-in-charge Nizam Ul Azim opened the construction works in a simple ceremony at Kazihata area on Sunday. Commissioner of Rajshahi Metropolitan Police Md Shamsuddin, Principal of New Govt. Degree College Prof Jarjish Kadir, RCC Chief Engineer Ashraful Haque and others concerned were present on the occasion. Speaking on the occasion, former mayor Liton hoped that the initiative will benefit the juveniles alongside the pedestrians. He urged the city corporation authority to implement the project with utmost sincerity and honesty so that the target group of people can derive its total benefits.
Nizam Ul Azim told the meeting that the RCC is implementing various development projects to improve the city's road network. Many of the projects have already been implemented, while some others are in process of implementation.
A project of Taka 72.16 crore is being implemented for widening the road from Upashahar crossing to Sagarpara crossing via Sonadighi and Malopara aimed at removing the traffic-jam and building a strong and effective road network in the mid town. The project has also provision of footpath and drains on both sides of the road. The existing Alupatti-Talaomari road will be elevated to four-lane at an estimated cost of Taka 87.21 crore for easing traffic jam. In addition to this, 14 other important roads of the metropolis will be widened to 42 feet with footpath. To this end, a project of Taka 469 crore has been prepared. Engineer Ashraful Haque told BSS that the 'Zero Soil' project is being implemented aimed at planting new trees throughout the city. We will plant thousands of Kath Karabi (flowering trees) that would release more oxygen."
