BCL factional clashes in Ctg, Sylhet

Two groups of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) Chittagong City College Unit and Omargani MES College units engaged in a clash while observing 68th founding anniversary of the party at Central Shaheed Minar in Chittagong yesterday. Eyewitness said two groups of BCL City College Unit and Omargani MES College units locked into an altercation when City College BCL unit blasting fire-works at around 1pm. At one stage chased and counter-chased took place between the two rival groups.
One group threw chairs to other groups in front of their leaders. This situation was continued about 20 minutes, while panic spreads among the nearby shopkeepers and passerby. “Two groups were locked into an altercation during cutting anniversary cake at Central Shaheed Minar and a tense situation was prevailed in the area. It was stopped by our intervention,” Emran Ahmed Imu, president of BCL city unit said. Zahirul Islam, a businessman of Shaheed Minar area said, “The two groups of BCL locked into an altercation, one group chased other group terming them as Shibir. Due to the clash panic prevails in whole area.”
“Two group of BCL were involved in clash over a trivial matter. It was stopped soon after the intervention of their senior leaders,” said Jashim Uddin, officer-in-charge of Kotwali police station. Our correspondent adds from Sylhet: At least three shops were vandalised in a clash between two groups of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) in the city’s Rikabibazar area on Monday afternoon. Protesting the vandalisation businessmen of the city barricaded the road. Quoting locals, police said marking the anniversary of BCL, Sylhet district unit brought out a procession in the city defying the police order. When the procession reached Rikabibazar area a group of rival BCL attacked each other. During the clash three shops were vandalised by BCL men. Police rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control said, Shuhel Ahmed, officer in charge of Kotwali police station.
