Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) has asked the illegal internet service providers and cyber cafés to receive licences immediately from the authorities concerned, reports UNB.
It also warned that actions, including filing of cases, will be taken against the service providers which are running without licences.
The BTRC issued a notice in this regard yesterday.
According to the Bangladesh Telecommunication Act 2001, establishing or operating a telecommunication system in Bangladesh or undertaking any construction work of such system without a licence is a punishable office. An offender shall be liable to be sentenced to imprisonment for a term not exceeding 10 years, or to a fine not exceeding Tk 300 crore or both, the notice said.
It also asked the organistions having BSCCL, IIG, BWA, NTTN and ISP lincenses to stop providing bandwidth services to the unauthorised internet service providers and cyber cafés.
