Villavarayen stresses players fitness

Sports Reporter

After a 19-day break, Bangladesh team returned to their regular business ahead of the Twenty20 series against Zimbabwe.
The Players spent a tough time in the month-long BPL-3 for which they could not get enough opportunity to do practice on fitness. The training camp for the national team began on Sunday under the guideline of Strength and Conditioning coach Mario Villavarayen.
Sri Lanka-born coach said that they have to sort out players, who are not up to the mark on fitness-wise after this big gap.
“They played lot of cricket throughout the last year. To be honest, it’s very good. We did not work on fitness. Considering that in mind we’ve started practicing. That’s very well that they’re improving. Some guys are not up to the mark. So they need to keep improving,” said Mario Villavarayen yesterday.
“I think that they are ready. End of the day they have got too many practice matches. In BPL they played a lot of games last month. That will happen after this tournament. It’s not easy. Now we’ve to sort out that some of the guys, who are not up to the mark,” Villavarayen told media.
“We got a break because of domestic reasons. They need to work on individually as well while they are not with me. I’m sure that they have BCL matches, which will soon be started. So, they know what they have to work,” he added.
Citing Rubel’s injury, the fitness coach said “Rubel has calf problem since last month or more. He has needed some more times.”
“Last year was the busiest year. There will be injury problem after it. That’s happening in all the international teams not only Bangladesh. So, we need to work with players. We’ve to work with the domestic teams also. They’re bowling enough in domestic cricket that is important.”
