The cricketers urged Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) president Nazmul Hassan Papon to withdraw the players by choice system with which the Inter-Club players transfer of the Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League is set to be held.
Led by Mashrafe Bin Mortaza and Mushfiqur Rahim, the players, who are now in the practice camp for the T20 series against Zimbabwe, met the BCB chief yesterday at his office in Dhanmondi.
Hassan said he would consider the players’ plea and would talk to the clubs in this regard before taking a final decision.
“They (cricketers) requested us through the CCDM. We always see the interest of the cricketers and here it will be no different,” Hassan said after the meeting with the players.
“I’ll talk to the clubs in this regard. We have to protect the interest of both parties. But we are always inclined to do the things for the greater interest of the cricket.”
Earlier it was said that the players by choice system would be implemented for just one year. However most of the clubs had recently voted for this system which is why the CCDM took the decision to retain it.
The players alleged the system hindered their freedom to pick their team in which they are interested to play.
In contrast, the clubs complained that some of the players want an improbable amount for which a system should be there to prevent it going from chaotic. According to them, the ‘players by choice’ system is the best way to make the things disciplined because here every players’ come under a category as per their demand. The players’ auction of the BPL-3 was held through this system.
The BCB president meanwhile reiterated that they have kept a slot for Test cricket in April and hence for the time being they wanted the players to focus on only T20 cricket given the Asia Cup and World T20. The BCB had to face criticism for discarding a Test from the series against Zimbabwe in the midst of this month.
“We have Asia Cup and World T20 and so we need enough practice to get used to the format. That’s why we dropped the Test match from the series for the time being. We have a slot in April and we’ll play Test cricket then,” he said.
Bangladesh will play four-match T20 series against Zimbabwe, all of which would be held in Sylhet.
