Warehouse gutted by fire
Benapole: A warehouse of jute and rice was gutted by a fire that broke out at Bodhkhana village in Jhikargachha upazila of Jessore district on Saturday night.
Witnesses said the fire erupted in the warehouse of one Emdadul Haque around 10:30pm.
On information, fire fighters rushed to the spot and doused the flame after two hours of frantic efforts.
The warehouse owner claimed that huge amount of jute worth Tk six lakh was gutted in the fire.

Wanted criminal arrested

Detective Branch of police in Jessore arrested a wanted criminal from Lichutola area in the town on Saturday evening.
Police recovered a foreign pistol, a revolver and three rounds of ammunition from his possession.
 The culprit has been identified as Esahaque Ali alis Kala Topon, 28, and an inhabitant of Lichutola area in Puraton Kashaba in Jessore town.
Police said Kala Tapon was a listed criminal. He was an arms trader and had been involved in the trade for a long time.
He used to bring arms from India through Benapole border and used to sell those to other criminals
Acting on a tip-off, police raided Beneali area in Jhikorgacha upazila and arrested him when he was coming to Jessore by a passenger bus.

BSF hands over 29 Bangladeshis
Benapole: Indian Border Security Force (BSF) handed  over 29 Bangladeshi nationals, including four children and eight women, to Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) through Benapole Check post on Saturday night, reports UNB.
Subedar Abdul Hamid of 26 BGB Battalion of Benapole camp said members of BSF arrested the 29 from Bongaon in India on Saturday on charge of intruding into the Indian territory.
BSF handed them over to BGB around 8:30pm, he added.
The returnees include four children, eight women and 17 men.  Later, BGB handed them over to Benapole Port Police Station.
A case was filed against them with the police station, said Sub-inspector Ashraf Hossain.

25 injured in clash in B’baria
At least 25 people, including four policemen, were injured in a clash between two groups of villagers over a trifling matter at Syedtula village in Sarail upazila yesterday morning, reports UNB.
Ali Arshad, officer-in-charge of Sarail Police Station, said a rickshaw van driver named Chottu Miah was engaged in carrying paddy home from the land of one Bakul Miah in the morning. As Chottu Miah failed to bring the paddy home in time, Bakul picked a
quarrel with him.
Over the issue, the two groups of villagers locked into a fierce clash around 7:30am that continued for an hour.
On information, police rushed to the spot and opened several rounds of rubber bullet and lobbed teargas shells.
The clash left al least 25 people injured, including four police constable.
The injured were admitted to Sarail Upazila Health Complex.

Man set ablaze to himself
Benapole: A man reportedly killed himself over family feud by setting fire to his body at Basantapur village in Sarsha upazila on Saturday evening, reports UNB.
The deceased was identified as Alamgir Hossain,38, of Kathshakra village.
Family sources said Alamgir has been living at his in-laws’ house at Basantapur village with his wife and children for the last one month. On Saturday evening, he had snacks with his family members. Later, he entered his room and set fire to his body around 6 pm.
With severe burn injuries, he was whisked off to Jessore Medical College Hospital where on-duty doctors declared him dead.
While contacted, Officer-in-charge of Sarsha police station Maniruzzaman said the reason behind the suicide could not be known.
