14, newly elected mayor implicated in murder case

At least 15 people, including newly-elected mayor ABM Anisuzzaman of Trishal municipality, were sued on Saturday for their alleged involvement in killing of a Juba League activist.
Md Parvez, 23, a member of Juba League unit in ward-3 of the municipality, was killed on Friday night.
Anisuzzaman, the incumbent mayor, won the polls as an AL rebel candidate.
Parvez’s father Ibrahim Miah filed a murder case with Trishal police station implicating Anissuzzaman as the prime accused in the case on Saturday night, said Md Moniruzzaman, officer-in-charge of Trishal police station.
But the OC did not disclose the names of other accused in the case.Parvez, loyal to defeated AL mayoral candidate Jahidul Islam Sarker, was allegedly attacked by supporters of Anisuzzaman in the municipality on Friday night. He died on the spot.
Police yesterday morning detained two Awami League men, loyal to Anisuzzaman for their alleged involvement in killing.
