Some 24 teachers and employees of Kohela College in Mirzapur upazila have been passing days in hardship as they are not receiving any payment from the government under its MPO (Monthly pay order) scheme.
This is because the college has not yet been considered eligible to get the government facility that ensures payment of money equal to the amount of salary, medical allowance and house rents as offered by the institution.
The college was established 13 years ago and has excelled on account of results and yet, it is deprived of the MPO.
Now, frustration has gripped the teachers and employees of the college, and, many think, the academic activities might collapse.
Established in 2002 under private initiative the college has 111 students in the first year, 152 students in second year, 60 students in first year BM course, 60 in second year BM course and 80 students in agriculture diploma.
Masudur Rahman Khan, principal of the college, said the college has been affiliated by the board. “The results of the college are satisfactory. The teachers and employees of the college have been passing a sub-human life as they are deprived of MPO for the last 13 years,” he said.
The principal said the college has fulfilled all the pre-requisite criteria to receive the MPO.
Monira Sultana, an additional deputy commissioner and chairman of the college governing body said she is aware of the problems of the college and efforts are underway to solve the problems.
