A Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) mobile court in the port city yesterday fined three hospitals Tk 12,60,000 for using date- expired re-agents, selling date expiry medicines and diagnosing diseases by unskilled manpower at O.R Nizam Road area. These situations of the port city’s diagnostic centres and hospitals were found after conducting a drive by Sarwar Alam executive magistrate of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) headquarters.
Metropolitan Hospital, an eminent hospital of the city was fined Tk8, 10,000 for diagnosing diseases by unskilled technician, selling date expired medicines, running ICU without permission and diagnosing disease with defect machine.
The court also fined Tk2, 50,000 to Medical Centre for diagnosing disease by unskilled men and unhygienic environment in pathology. The hospital doesn’t have any permission of ICU and CCU, said the magistrate. Tk4, 00,000 was fined to Royal Hospital for diagnosing disease with date expired re-agent and for unskilled man. The court on December 29 last year fined four eminent diagnostic centres of the city for using date expiry re-agents to diagnosis diseases.
The court fined Sensive Diagnosis centre, an eminent diagnostic centre in Chittagong Tk 10 lakh as 80 percent re-agent was found date expiry in the diagnostic centre either in 2011 or in 2013 and more than 200 date expiry re-agents was seized from the diagnosis centre. The court also fined to Bellevue Tk 5 lakh, Tk 2, 00, 000 to Diasonic and fined Tk 50,000 to Lab Experts for the same ground. “We have found that the diagnostic centres and hospitals were diagnosing diseases with date expiry re-agents, which also conducting by unskilled manpower,” said Sarwaer Alam, executive magistrate of RAb.
“We have found in theses hospitals and diagnostic centres conducting important tests by the men who passed from humanities, they don’t have any training or related certificates, it is alarming.” added Sarwar.
“We found Metropolitan Hospital and Medical Centre running ICUs and CCU without any permission,” he said.
“We directed the hospital authorities to develop their environment to take necessary permission within 15 days,” he further added. “Though it will tarnish our image, we are taking this a part of awareness. As per the directives of the mobile court we can develop our environment of the hospitals. It will help us to find out our faults. From the lesson we can ensure better treatment for the people in future,” said, Dr Mohammad Zahedul Alam, medical director of Royal Hospital.
Another report adds: The court fined Tk200, 000 to Lab Aid Diagnostic centres Tk200, 000 for using date expiry re-agents in tests. Tk200, 000 was fined to Metro Diagnostic centre for using sub-standard materials in tests.
