To remember Manna—once a hugely popular actor of the country’s film industry, an eventful programme titled ‘Manna Utsab 2016: Dreams of Manna’ was organised at Bangladesh Shishu Academy in the capital on Friday. The programme was organised jointly by Manna Foundation and Bangladesh Film Artistes’ Association. The star-studded performance of the artistes from the country’s film industry and music world was one of the main attractions of the festival.
Information Minister Hasanul Haq Inu inaugurated the festival, while chairman and managing director of NTV Mohammed Mosaddeq Ali was present as special guest at the event. Chairperson of Manna Foundation Shelly Manna and actress Shabnur presented uttorio (scarf) to the guests. Manna’s son Siam Iltimas was also present on the stage at that moment. After the formal inauguration of the festival, Shelly Manna, the wife of late actor Manna, read out a written speech.
The invited guests of the programme termed Manna as a hero of humanity, whose presence was not only limited to the silver screen, but also spread over in the real life. As he was seen standing beside the poor and needy people in the film, at the same time, he stayed beside the people in real life as well in their times of need.
Besides mesmerising dance and musical performance, the directors and co-artistes from Manna-acted different films recalled their memories about Manna and his works. Popular actors Amit Hasan and Popy danced with a melody from Manna-acted film ‘Lal Badshah’, while Zayed Khan and Airin performed a dance with an English track ‘Take My Breath Away’.
With the song ‘Isshor Allah Bidhata Jane’, Simon and Shirin Shila performed and actor Amin Khan performed with the song ‘Ammajan’—a much notable song from one of Manna’s films.
On the other hand, actor couple Omar Sani and Mousumi performed with the song ‘Ananta Prem Tumi Dao Amake’ from the film ‘Luttoraj’.
The event also included a fashion show choreographed by Bulbul Tumpa. Two popular heroes of Dhaka film industry Riaz and Ferdous anchored the event.
To note, Manna acted in more than 200 films in his lifetime, and also won the National Film Award in 2006. He died on February 17 in 2008 at the age of 44 due to heart attack. l
