COX’S BAZAR: Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal said yesterday no godfather involved in drug trading would be spared. “Godfathers in drug trading must be bought to book, no matter however powerful they might be,” he said as the chief guest while inaugurating a month-long countrywide drive and campaign against illegal drugs at BIAM auditorium adjacent to the world’s longest sea beach here, reports BSS.
“It is known to all that contraband Yaba tablets are being smuggled into the country from Myanmar. The situation improved few days back due to strict measures in the border which later turned the same,” he said.
“So, the government has decided to take concerted efforts involving all the stakeholders including school teachers and imams of the mosques to effectively fight the adverse impact of the drugs,” he also said.
The minister vowed to make Cox’s Bazar free from drugs, saying, “Cox’s Bazar is changing rapidly with an initiative to make it as international tourism city having all international facilities including building an international airport here. So, it is the high time to declare the city as drug free.”
Deputy Commissioner of Cox’s Bazar Ali Hossain presided over the meeting. Among others, administrator of Cox’s Bazar District Council Mostak Ahmed Chowdhury, lawmakers of different constituencies of Cox’s Bazar, Abdur Rahman Badi, Saimum Sarwar Kamol, Ashek Ullah Rafiq and Hazi Mohammad Ilias were present on the occasion.
