JCD leader arrested

Police arrested a Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) leader from a rally in Pirojpur town yesterday morning. The arrestee is Md Badiuzzaman Sheikh Rubel, president (in-charge) of Pirojpur municipality unit of JCD and son of Md Aslam Sheikh of Moddhorasta in the town.JCD sources said on the occasion of 37th birth anniversary of the organisation, a rally was brought out from BNP district unit office in the town at 11.30am after cutting birthday cake and a discussion meeting. As soon as the rally reached in front of the Rose Garden Restaurant in the town, cops obstructed the rally and picked up Rubel. Md Enayet Hossain, officer-in-charge of Pirojpur Sadar police station, said Rubel, who is accused in several cases, had been hiding to avoid arrest.
Body in 2 pieces recovered
Kushtia: Police recovered the body of man cut into two pieces from two separate places in Sadar upazila yesterday morning, reports UNB. The deceased was identified as Feroz Pramanik, son of late Gias Uddin Pramanik of Purba Abdulpur village under Islami University police station. Witnesses said local people noticed a blood socked bag hanging with the main gate of Alampur School and College in the morning and informed police.
Later, police recovered the severed head of Feroz from the bag. After one hour’s search, the law enforcers also recovered the rest body part from a field in Gobindapukur area of the upazila, four kilometers away from the previous spot. Additional Superintendent of Police Joinul Abedin confirmed the incident. Feroz might have been killed by miscreants at some time on Friday night, the ASP suspected.
Fugitive convict arrested
Chapainawabganj: Police in a drive arrested a fugitive convict in a case filed under the Narcotics Control Act from Hazardighi area in Shibganj upazila on Friday, reports UNB.The arrestee was identified as Masud,28, of the village. Tipped off, a team of police conducted a drive in the area and arrested Masud in the evening, said Golam Rasul, sub-inspector of Shibganj Police Station. Masud was convicted and sentenced to two years’ imprisonment in a case filed under the Narcotics Control Act, Golam Rasul added.
Smuggled goods seized
SATHKHIRA: Members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) in a drive seized Indian smuggled goods worth about Taka 10.19 lakh from Kakdanga frontier area of Kalaroa upazila on Friday night, reports BSS. BGB sources said, on a tip-off, a team of the BGB conducted a raid in the area at mid-night and seized 135 pieces of Indian saree, 40 pieces of shirt, 30 pieces of shawl and 350 pieces of cap worth about Taka 10.19 lakh.
None was arrested in this connection, the sources added.
