3 JMB men on fresh remand

A Dhaka court yesterday placed three alleged members of the banned militant outfit, Jamaa’tul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB), on a fresh four-day remand in connection with a case filed following the recent pre-dawn raid on a house in Mirpur. The three JMB men were Abu Sayeed alias Rasel alias Salman, Elias alias Omar Faruque, and Mohsin Ali alias Rubel. Dhaka Metropolitan judge Yunus Khan passed the order. Earlier, Detective Branch (DB) inspector Md Mumin Khan produced the three JMB members before the court seeking seven days’ remand. In the remand plea, the prosecution said that the three men must be allowed to be taken into police custody to trace the absconding JMB second-in-command Mostafizur Rahman alias Shakil and its leader Shohel Rana Hiron alias Kamal, who gave police the slip from the Mirpur JMB den. Police need to conduct raids to arrest the JMB militants, the prosecution said in the remand plea. In the pre-dawn raid that lasted around eight hours and involved evacuation of residents from a building, the DB of police busted a ‘secret den’ of the banned militant Islamist outfit in Mirpur and arrested seven people on December 24. Three of the detainees are top members of the JMB, the police claimed. A large cache of explosives was also seized from separate apartments in the building,
