January
Jan 1: The prosecution filed a petition with the ICT-1 seeking to initiate contempt of court proceedings against three Jammat leaders and a lawyer representing war crimes convict ATM Azharul Islam over a comment centring the verdict.
Jan 3: Police banned all protests in Dhaka city and locked main opposition leader Begum Khaleda Zia in her office as tension rose before the first anniversary of the January 5 general election her party boycotted.
Jan 5: BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia announced a countrywide indefinite blockade of road, rail and waterways.
In Natore, two JCD activists Rakib Hossain (20) and Raihan Ali Rana (20) were killed and 15 others were injured as activists of the ruling AL and the BNP traded bullets.
In Rajshahi, Mojiruddin (45), a BNP leader was killed and some 25 others were injured when BNP activists clashed with the law enforcers at Baneswar Bazar of Puthia.
In Chapainawabganj, Jamshed Ali (40), a BNP activist was killed and 10 others, including two law enforcers, were injured during a clash between Police at Kansat-Gopalnagar intersection in Shibganj.
Jan 7: In Noakhali District, Rubel Hossain (28) and Mohin Uddin (30) were killed and 50 others were injured when police intercepted the BNP procession at Chowmohani Rail Gate area under Begumganj.
Jan 9: HRW in a press release said that the Government should immediately end use of excessive force, stop arbitrary arrests of members of opposition parties and lift restrictions on the media.
Jan 11: In Gaibandha, Parvez (25) was killed and two others injured when blockaders hurled a petrol bomb at a bus heading for Dhaka city.
BNP's chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia called upon the leaders and activists of her party to press ahead with their peaceful movement until the demand for an inclusive election under a non-partisan government is realized.
Jan 13: Unidentified people shot and injured BNP chairperson's adviser Reaz Rahman (74) and then torched his car at city's Gulshan area.
In Chittagong, Enam Hossain (33) was killed and two others were injured when a truck on the Dhaka-Chittagong highway skidded off into a roadside ditch after blockaders exploded petrol bombs at it.
Jan 14: In Rangpur, five people, including a child, were burnt to death and 15 others were injured as alleged blockaders hurled a petrol bomb at Mithapukur sub-District in Rangpur.
In Dhaka city, seven people, including a Police constable and two Ansar members, were injured in crude bomb attacks.
Jan 15: In Gazipur, bus helper Tofazzal Hossain (17) was burnt to death while he was asleep inside the bus at Mohishbathan Bot Tola on Dhaka-Tangail Highway.
In Dhaka city, private car driver Abul Kalam (26), who suffered 33 percent burns in a petrol bomb attack at Moghbazar died at the Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH).
Jan 16: Expressing concern over the political situation in Bangladesh, the UNHRC urged all political parties to show restraint and bring an immediate end to violence.
Jan 17: In Dhaka, 13 Policemen and nine others were injured in two attacks. Miscreants hurled a petrol bomb at a bus carrying around 30 policemen near Matsya Bhaban intersection injuring 13 Policemen. In another incident, nine passengers were injured after blockaders torched a bus in Mohammadpur.
Jan 18: In Barisal, Sohag Biswas (18), a truck helper was burnt to death as alleged pro-blockade pickets hurled a petrol bomb at the vehicle in Uzirpur.
Jan 19: Syed Mohammad Qaisar (74), a former state minister for agriculture in HM Ershad-led regime challenged the death penalty handed down on him by the ICT-2 for his crimes against humanity during the Liberation War.
Jan 20: In Dhaka, a leader of JCD was killed in a shootout with Police. The victim, Nuruzzaman Jonny, was general secretary of Khilgaon unit JCD.
Jan 22: In Dhaka Sanjid Hossain Ovi, an eleventh grader of Kabi Nazrul Government College succumbed to his injuries. Separately, Mahbubur Rahman Bappy (28), general secretary of JCD succumbed to his injuries. In another incident, a human haulier helper was injured in a crude bomb attack at Mohammadpur.
Jan 30: In Laxmipur District, Mohammad Sumon (36), a bus driver was killed and four others were injured after blockade supporters hurled a crude bomb at the bus.

February
Feb 1: Masked assailants burned to death Mohammad Mohiuddin (35), an activist of Juba League to death inside his house in Chittagong.
Feb 3: Seven persons were killed and 20 others were injured as BNP blockaders hurled a petrol bomb at a bus in Chouddagram of Comilla District.
Two activists of Juba Dal were killed as a truck ran them over while they were trying to hurl petrol bombs at the vehicle in Monirampur in Jessore District.
Feb 4: Two youths were killed in a gunfight with RAB in Jatrabari area.
Two persons were killed when a gang of 10-12 hurled crude bombs, petrol bombs and brick chips simultaneously at the truck at Belail in Bogra town.
A police constable, who had been injured while trying to escape a petrol bomb attack on January 17, succumbed to his injuries at a hospital.
Four people were killed and 30 others were injured in a petrol bomb attack on a passenger bus in Gaibandha.
Feb 7: Three persons were killed when alleged blockaders hurled a petrol bomb at a poultry feed-laden truck in Mahilara area in Barisal.
Feb 10: Police arrested two alleged razakar leaders, Mozibur Rahman (52), chairman of Khagaura union of Baniachong Upazila and his elder brother Mohibur Rahman (55), in Habiganj for their involvement in crimes against humanity during the Liberation War of 1971.
Feb 13: Anup Chetia, general secretary of ULFA, and two of his associates, Laxmi Prasad Goswami and Babul Sharma, were given further consular access facilities for six months to meet Indian diplomats in jail.
Feb 16: Eight people were injured in a crude bomb blast when a procession, led by Shipping Minister Shajahan Khan, was marching towards BNP chief Begum Khaleda Zia's Gulshan office to lay siege to it.
Feb 18: The ICT-2 sentenced Jamaat-e-Islami Nayeb-e-Ameer Abdus Subhan to death for committing crimes against humanity during the Liberation War in 1971.
Feb 21: Two activists of Juba Dal Kabir Mollah (32) and Tipu Hawlader (30) were killed in a ‘gunfight’ with Police in Agailjhara of Barisal.
Feb 24: ICT-1 which tried JP leader Abdul Jabbar in absentia sentenced him life imprisonment for committing crimes against humanity during the 1971 Liberation War.
Feb 26: Avijit Roy (42), the popular founder of Mukta-mona.com blog, was hacked to death by suspected Islamic extremists in Dhaka city. His wife Rafida Ahmed Banna was also injured seriously in the attack.
March
Mar 2: ICT-1 indicted Obaidul Haque alias Taher an activist of Nezam-e-Islam and Ataur Rahman alias Noni, an activist of Muslim League for their alleged crimes against humanity during the Liberation War in 1971.
Mar 7: 17 persons were injured when a number of crude bombs were blasted minutes after Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina Wajed's motorcade crossed Karwan Bazar underpass area in the capital.
Mar 9: AL-led 14-party alliance organized a road march to mobilize public support against the ongoing BNP-led 20-party alliance's countrywide non-stop blockade and hartals.
Mar 18: Truck driver Jahangir (35) was burnt to death on the spot as unidentified blockade supporters hurled a petrol bomb at a truck in Chandpur District.
Mar 30: Secular blogger Mohamad Oyasiqur Rahman Babu (27) killed in Dhaka city allegedly for his atheist views.
April
Apr 5: BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia returned to her Gulshan residence in Dhaka city after a 92-day stay at her political office.
Apr 6: SC upheld its previous verdict on Jamaat-Islam-Bangladesh Senior Assistant Secretary General Muhammad Kamaruzzaman, rejecting his plea for reviewing death penalty for his crimes against humanity during the Liberation War in 1971.
Apr 8: A Kishoreganj District Court sentenced ULFA leader Ranjan Chowdhury alias Major Ranjan (46), former General Secretary of Dhubri District unit of ULFA and his Bangladeshi aide Pradip Marak (57) to life term imprisonment.
Apr 11: Senior Assistant Secretary General of Jamaat-Islam-Bangladesh Mohammed Kamaruzzaman (63), was hanged at 10:30pm at Dhaka Central Jail for crimes against during the Liberation War of 1971.
Apr 17: Interpol issued a "red notice" for the arrest of war crimes convict Abdul Jabbar, a former JP MP from Pirojpur.
Apr 20: BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia's motorcade came under attack by pro-ruling AL activists during her election campaign at the Dhaka city's Karwan Bazar.
Apr 22: pro-AL activists attacked BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia's motorcade with wooden sticks and threw brick chips at it in Dhaka city's Bangla Motor area.
May
May 4: ICT-1 initiated contempt of court proceedings against Abdul Jabbar and Atiqur Rahman, President and Secretary General of Islami Chatra Shibir for their joint media statement about a War Crimes verdict.
May 6: Detectives pressed murder charges against BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia and 37 others for their alleged involvement in a petrol bomb attack on a bus in Jatrabari area on Jan 23.
May 12: BNP leader Salahuddin Ahmed found in the Indian state of Meghalaya.
May 12: Progressive writer, blogger and editor of science fiction magazine, "Jukti", Ananta Bijoy Das (32), was hacked to death at Subidbazar Bankolapara residential area of Sylhet city.
May 20: ICT-2 sentenced Mahidur Rahman (84) and Ashraf Hossain Chutu (65) life imprisonment for their involvement in crimes against humanity during the Liberation War in 1971.
May 26: The Appellate Division of SC asked the defence to submit a concise statement before it within the next four weeks on an appeal filed by condemned War Criminal Jamaat central executive committee member Mir Quasem Ali against his death sentence.

June 9: ICT-1 awarded death sentence to fugitive War Crimes convict Syed Muhamad Hasan Ali (65), an alleged commander of Tarail unit Razakar in Kishoreganj district and once involved with Nezam-e-Islami, an anti-liberation organization, for his crimes against humanity during the Liberation War.
June 14: Convicted War Criminal and BNP standing committee member Salauddin Quader Chowdhury filed
an application with the SC seeking an adjournment from the SC on hearing his appeal challenging his death penalty.
June 16: The SC upheld the death penalty to War Criminal and Jamaat Secretary General Ali Ahsan Mohammad Mojaheed for his crimes against humanity during the Liberation War in 1971.
June 18: ICT-2 issued an arrest warrant for Gonoshasthaya Kendra founder Zafrullah Chowdhury for non-payment of a fine it had imposed on him for contempt of court.

July 28: Abdul Latif Talukder (69), one of the War Crimes accused died at DMCH in Dhaka city while undergoing treatment.
July 29: SC upheld death penalty for BNP standing committee member Salauddin Quader Chowdhury (66) for crimes against community committed during the Liberation War of 1971.

Aug 7: Niladri Chattopad-hyay Niloy alias Niloy Neel (28), a secular blogger and a Gonojagoron Mancha activist was hacked to death at his Goran house in Khilgaon.
Aug 11: ICT-1 awarded death penalty to Bagerhat District Razakar leader Sheikh Sirajul Haque alias Siraj Master (73) and imprisonment until death to another Razakar leader Khan Akram Hossain for genocide, murder, abduction and forceful conversion of Hindus into Islam during the Liberation War in 1971.
Aug 24: Guerrillas of the Arakan Army attacked a joint patrol of the Bangladesh Army and the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) at Thanchi in Bandarban district.

Sept 3: Two leaders of BCP were killed in a gunfight with Police in Pangsha in Rajbari.
Sept 4: HuT held their online political conference vowing to establish Khilafat in the country. Some 500 persons participated in the event.
Sept 7: ICT-1 accepted charges against former BNP and Jamaat-e-Islami lawmaker Shakhawat Hossain and eight others.
Sept 14: Sheikh Hasina wins top United Nations Environmental Prize ‘Champion of the Earth’ award.
Sept 15: Government made one of two ICTs dormant and brought some changes in the positions of the tribunal judges.
Sept 28: Italian national Cesare Tavella (50), a technical director working at Netherlands-based development organization ICCO was killed in Gulshan.
Sept 29: ICT-1 indicted Habiganj siblings - Mohibur Rahman alias Bara Mia (65) and Mozibur Rahman alias Angur Mia (60), and their cousin Abdur Razzak (63) - on four charges of crimes against humanity during the Liberation War in 1971.

Oct 3: Japanese national Hoshi Kunio (66) was shot to death by unidentified armed men in Rangpur. IS claimed responsibility for the murder and warned of more such attacks.
Oct 5: Luke Sarkar (52), Pastor of Faith Bible Church in the Ishwardi of Pabna, was attacked by three unidentified men at his home.
Oct 14: Condemned war criminals Ali Ahsan Mohammad Mojaheed (67) and Salauddin Quader Chowdhury (66) appealed to the SC to review its judgments that upheld their death penalties for committing crimes against humanity during the Liberation War.

Nov 4: One Industrial Police Constable was hacked to death and four others were injured as some unidentified men made a sudden attack on them at Baraipara in Ashulia, a suburban area near Dhaka.
Nov 12: Nur Hossain, the prime accused of Narayanganj seven-murder case, has been brought back from India.
Nov 18: The Supreme Court dismissed review petitions of death row inmates Ali Ahsan Mohammad Mujahid and BNP standing committee member Salauddin Quader Chowdhury for crimes against humanity during the Liberation War in 1971.
An Italian citizen Piero Arolari (57), sustained bullet injuries in an attack by unknown miscreants at BRTC bus stand in Dinajpur town.
Nov 22: The government executed war criminals former BNP standing committee member Salauddin Quader Chowdhury and Jamaat-e-Islami Secretary General Ali Ahsan Mohammad Mujahid after completing all legal procedures, in line with the ICT verdicts.
Nov 26: In a second attack on Shia Muslims in just over a month, one person was killed and three others were injured as three gunmen stormed a Shia mosque and opened fire on praying people in Shibganj of Bogra.
December
Dec 5: 10 people were injured in bomb blasts at Kantaji temple in Dinajpur.
Dec 7: Attorney General Mahbubey Alam appealed to the Supreme Court to uphold the death sentence of war criminal JeI ameer Motiur Rahman Nizami (72) as the Jamaat-e-Islami.
Dec 10: Two persons were injured as unidentified gunmen attacked a Hindu religious function at ISKCON temple in Dinajpur.
