Teachers of Bangladesh Agricultural University (BAU) observed work abstention yesterday as part of their protest against the 8th pay scale and demanded a separate pay structure for the university teachers immediately. All classes and examinations remained suspected yesterday due to the action of the teachers, who assembled in front of the central library at around 11:30am under the banner of BAU Teachers Association (BAUTA) to disapprove the national pay scale that has undermined them. Mentioning the new pay scale disparaging for the university teachers, BAUTA president Prof Dr Khandoker Shariful Islam said postponement of timescale and selection grade have rather cut the salary of university teachers as well as many other government officials of the country. The teachers have also vowed to go on a tougher movement if their demand is not met immediately.
