A taskforce of Dhaka Power Distribution Company (DPDC), in drives carried out during the last four days in the capital, has detected about 3 lakh units of electricity theft as well as alleged massive tax evasions.
Among the identified irregularities, about 2.49 lakh units of electricity theft was identified at Aziz Cable Industries in Nawabpur Road area of the capital, said a DPDC press release yesterday.
DPDC also sealed a factory in the city’s Swamibagh area for illegally distributing power to eight nearby factories. All the 9 factories were manufacturing mechanical products.
An estimated 99,000 units of electricity had been stolen by that factory, said DPDC. In South Jatrabari, DPDC unearthed 31,000 units of electricity theft in another factory.
The taskforce disconnected the power supplies to all these factories.
The owners and the businesses were fined a total of Tk 55 lakh.
