98.52pc pass in PSC exams, 95.13pc in Ebtadayee tests

The pass rate for the Primary School Certificate (PSC) terminal examination in 2015 is 98.52 per cent, wherein girl students have outdid boys, both in terms of participation as well as average pass rate.
Similarly, the average pass rate in Ebtedayee exams is 95.13 per cent, 0.85 less than the previous year, and girls are ahead of boys here as well.
Primary and Mass Education Minister Mostafizur Rahman Fizar presented the highlights of these results at a press conference at the Secretariat yesterday.  The average pass percentage of male students in PSC exams is 98.45 per cent and that of female students is 98.58 per cent, while their participation was 45.66 per cent and 54.34 per cent, respectively.
Under the seven divisions, Rajshahi division topped in results with the pass rate of 99 per cent, Sylhet came last with 96.79 per cent pass rate.
Out of the 64 districts, Munshiganj topped in with cent-per-cent pass figure and Barguna district is lowest with 93.82 per cent.
Out of the 509 upazilas/thanas, 23 upazilas boast of 100 per cent pass figure, while Taltoli upazila under Barguna district came last with the lowest 82.71 per cent pass rate.
On the other hand, no student in the 106 educational institutions passed this year. There were 654 students in these schools. Besides, 204 educational institutions did not participate in the primary examinations this year.
The minister assured that they will take action against the educational institutions from where no students have passed: “We will look into the matter why any student could not pass. The teachers and officials of the schools concerned have to answer it. Otherwise, we will not be able to achieve our goal of quality education.”
In all, 27,97,274 out of 28,39,238 students came out successful in the PSC exams in 2015. Of them, 12,77,146 are boys and 15,20,128 girls. The number of Grade Point Average (GPA)-5 holders in PSC is 2,75,980, which was 2,24,411 last year.
As per the division-wise pass rate, Rajshahi tops with 99 per cent followed by Khulna 98.97 per cent, Dhaka 98.74, Rangpur 98.56, Chittagong 98.41, Barisal 98.30 and Sylhet 96.79 per cent.
Besides, a total of 4,410 physically challenged students also took part in the exams and 4,262 of them emerged successful.
Rahman handed over the results to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at her official residence, Ganabhaban, yesterday morning. The Prime Minister then formally published the results and inaugurated the event for distribution of free text books among students.
In Ebtedayee examinations, the pass rate is 95.13 per cent.
The average pass percentage of boys in Ebtedayee exams is 95.09 percent this year, which was 96.11 per cent in 2014. Girl students account for 95.17 per cent, which was 95.84 per cent last year.
A total of 2,51,266 students out of 2,64,134 came out successful in the Ebtedayee examinations. Of the successful students, 1,28,425 are boys and 1,22,841 are girls.
This is a decrease of 1,840 students compared to the previous year.
This year a total of 5,473 students obtained GPA-5, which was 6,541 last year.
Besides, a total of 113 physically challenged students out of 123 have come out successful with the pass rate 91.87 per cent.
Cent-per-cent pass rate was achieved in 92 upazilas, with the lowest pass rate being recorded in Chudanga district (85.95%). Rahman said the Primary and Mass Education Ministry will distribute free text books at National Government Primary School at Mirpur-2 in the capital today to celebrate the “Textbook Festival Day”.
A total of 10,87,19,997 books will be distributed among about 2.23 crore primary students for the academic year 2016, while 32,88,43 books and 32,88,053 exercise books will be distributed among the pre-primary students, the minister said.
