A Bangladeshi national was gunned down by members of Indian Border Security Force (BSF) in Barogram bordering area of Sadar upazila yesterday, reports UNB.
The deceased was identified as Mohammad Nuruzzaman, 30, son of Shahidur Rahman, a resident of Barogram Chenpara village of the upazila.
Witnesses said BSF members from Elondari camp in South Dijanpur district of India opened fire on Nuruzzaman while he was entering the Indian territory at about 5:00 am, leaving him seriously injured.
Later, he was rushed to a local hospital in India where he succumbed to his injures at about 7:00 am.
Lieutenant Colonel Korban Ali, commanding officer of Dinajpur Phulbari Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) Battalion-29, confirmed the incident.
BGB officials strongly protested the incident and urged the BSF men to return the body at the earliest. However, BSF has yet to respond to hold a flag meeting.
