Aiming to display products to the buyers from home and abroad the 21st month-long Dhaka International Trade Fair (DITF-2016) begins today.
“This will be the ever best one due to well managed and the visitors will enjoy all kind of facilities,” Commerce Minister Tofail Ahmed told a press conference on the eve of the trade show on the fair premises at Sher-e-Bangla Nagar in the capital yesterday.
Tofail said Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is expected to inaugurate the DITF- 2016 at 3.30 pm. Export Promotion Bureau (EPB) and the Ministry of Commerce are jointly organising the country’s biggest trade exposition.
This year, seven new countries, Mauritius, Ghana, Nepal, Hong Kong, Japan, Morocco and Bhutan are participating in the exhibition
Apart from Bangladesh, 21 countries including India, Pakistan, China, Malaysia, Iran, Thailand, USA, Turkey, Singapore, Australia, UK, South Korea, Germany and UAE are taking part in the trade show..
Hedayetullah Al Mamoon, senior secretary, Ministry of Commerce, EPB Vice-Chairman Shubhashish Bose, President of the Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI) Abdul Matlub Ahmed and high officials of the ministry were present at the press conference.
The commerce minister expects that daily turnout of visitors to the fair would be around one lakh.
He said the Sundarbans Eco-park, DITF-E-Shop, small scale medical centre, blood donation centre and mosque have been set up in the fair area to entertain and meet the emergency needs of the visitors.
About security issue, Tofail said necessary measure has been taken. Member of Border Guard of Bangladesh, Ansar, private security force along with police and RAB will be deployed in the fair area to ensure security.
A total of 100 CC cameras have been set up at different important spots including man entrance, and car parking area, to enhance the security measures.
Speaking about the export order from the DITF during last five years –the entrepreneurs received spot order to export product worth of Tk 22.86 crore in 2010, Tk 25 crore in 2011, Tk 43.18 crore in 2012, Tk 157 crore in 2013, Tk 80 crore in 2014, and Tk 85 crore in 2015.
“Bangabandhu Memorial Pavilion” has been set up in the DITF this year to project the history of the Liberation War before the young generation, said Tofail.
Entry fee has been fixed at Tk 30 per person for adult and Tk 20 for child. There will be 111 pavilions, 57 mini pavilions, 80 premier pavilions and 276 stalls in the fair.
An array of products would be displayed in the fair which include machinery, carpet, cosmetics and beauty products, electrical and electronic, jute and leather goods, footwear, sports goods, sanitary wears, toys, watch, jewelry, ceramics table, local apparel items, processed foods, first foods, furniture and handicrafts.
The local producer in the remote areas of Bangladesh who does not have financial strength to participate in International trade fair will have the opportunity to display their products to the buyer from abroad.
On the other hand, the overseas participants would have opportunity to display their products to the consumer of Bangladesh where domestic market of consumer goods is expanding.
The foreign participants will also have the opportunity to display their state-of-the-art technology to the local producers and exporters. Besides, the participants will be able to identify business contacts with prospect of entering into subsequent business negotiation.
