A team of Dhaka Power Distribution Company Limited (DPDC) yesterday sealed a factory in the city’s Swamibagh area for illegally distributing power to nearby eight factories. All the 9 factories manufacture mechanical products.
Munir Chaudhury, chief of the special taskforce formed to check power pilferage and tax evasion, said, “Till now, 2 lakhs and 46 thousand units of electricity have been stolen through pilfering.” The estimated price of the theft electricity along with imposed fine values worth Tk 59 lakhs, he added. All productions in the factories will remain stopped until the criminals are arrested and fines are paid, he said.
