At least two suspected members of banned Islamist outfit Jamaat-ul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) were killed during a clash with the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) in Bhogra Bypass area of Gazipur early today. A pistol, five bullets, ‘huge’ explosives, bomb-making materials and jihadi books were recovered from the spot, RAB Media Wing Director Mufti Mahmud Khan said in an impromptu press conference there at 2:10am. A bomb disposal unit of the force also defused a ‘powerful bomb’ at the spot, he said. Mufti said the clash took place when a RAB team raided a hideout of the banned outfit at an abandoned house in the area around 12:10am. “Assuming RAB presence, the militants charged several powerful bombs prompting the RAB members to open gunshots,” he said. A RAB member was injured in the bomb attack and he was taken to a hospital, the RAB official said. “Two JMB members were found dead in the hideout and they might be killed in explosions of the bombs kept in their own bomb belts,” Mufti told journalists.
