Film director Rubaiyat Hossain’s second feature film titled ‘Under Construction’ will be screened as opening film at the 14th edition of ‘Dhaka International Film Festival’ on January 14 and second screening will be held at Central Public Library on January 18. The film is about a woman struggling to find herself in the sprawl of urban Bangladesh. The story of the film ‘Under Construction’ shows that in order to find herself, actress Roya reconstructs a famous and politically minded play for modern times, reclaiming her identity and sexuality in the process.
The film casts Shahana Goswami, Rikita Nandini, Mita Rahman, and Rahul Bose among others. The film will see its release on January 22 in Dhaka.
To note, earlier the film was screened at the Montreal International Film Festival (MIFF) in Canada, and ‘Festival De Cine Bogata’ in Colombia this year. The film also saw its world premiere at the Seattle Film Festival in America. The film won the Golden Durian Prize for best feature at Salamindanaw International Film Festival. l
