Speakers at a seminar on ‘Food safety’ appealed to the media to play more effective and responsible role in ensuring food safety, reports BSS. The director-general of the Department of Agriculture Extension, Md Hamidur Rahman, said, “The government will take all necessary steps to ensure food safety but it is up to the media to sensitize consumers and producers about it”. Syngenta organized the seminar at a city hotel yesterday. Dr. Golam Rahman, Professor of Journalism Department, University of Dhaka, and chairman, Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha (BSS), presided the seminar. Dr Rahman said that the media should not only highlight the problems but also provide necessary input for solutions. The media needs to be more socially responsible to help people dispel confusion about uncertain issues, he said.
