Anti-militancy drives after polls

Says home minister
Special Correspondent

Home minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal has said the law enforcement agencies would conduct anti-militancy drives across the country after the municipality elections. “The special drives would be conducted in those places where it is necessary to weed out militancy,” the minister told reporters at his Secretariat office yesterday. Kamal said law enforcers will continue their activities during the polling period as per the directive of the Election Commission. He also said the forthcoming civic polls would be held peacefully. “There is no reason to fear about the polls,” he added. The minister claimed that the name of Islamic State (IS) is being used in the country as part of local and international conspiracies. “We want to say that there is no room for IS in this country and the people trying to establish that outfit’s presence here would never be successful,” he added. About the recent incidents like Bagmara bombing and foreigners’ killings, Kamal said, “All are contract killings and the incidents have taken place to destabilise the country.” He assured that there is no reason for alarm.
