Wild animals, birds seized
Moulvibazar: Forest Department seized nine wild animals and 23 birds from a private zoo in Srimangal where those were kept illegally, reports UNB.
The seized wild animals included two tigers, two porcupines, three monkeys, one Burmese python, and one deer. Bedsides, 23 birds, including a kite, two mynas, two hornbills, and 12 ducks, were also seized.
Wildlife Management and Nature Conservation Division under the Ministry of Environment and Forest raided the private zoo of Abdul Hannan at Jalalia Road on Friday afternoon and seized the animals and birds.
Assistant Conservator of Forest (ACF) of Moulvibazar Range said although there was permission to keep deer and some birds in the zoo but the owner kept some wild animals and birds illegally which were seized.
Dr. Asad, a doctor Lauachora Wildlife Rescue Center, said some of these animals have become weak due to captivity at the private zoo. Those will be treated at the center until they are healthy again and then they will be returned to their natural habitat.
Jamaat leader held in Gazipur
GAZIPUR: Police arrested a local leader of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami from Sripur poura area here yesterday morning, reports BSS.
The arrestee was M Mobarak Hossain, general secretary of Sripur upazila unit of Jamaat.
Police arrested him when he was campaigning for Pourasabha Election as a councilor candidate of the Pourasabha, said officer-in-charge of Sripur Thana Asaduzzaman.
Nine cases were pending against him for different subversive activities, the OC added.
Body recovered in Noakhali
NOAKHALI: Police recovered the body of a cycle mechanic from Bhuiyar Hat area of Bataiya union under Kabirhat upazila of the district yesterday morning, reports                          BSS.
The deceased was identified as M Abu Taher, 22, a resident of Chandrasindhi village of the upazila.
Being informed, police rushed to the spot and recovered the body from a paddy field of the area at about 9 am and sent it to Noakhali General Hospital morgue, said Moktar Hossain, officer-in-charge of Kabirhat police station.
A case was filed in this connection.
Youth held with fake currency
Chapainawabganj: Police arrested a young man in possession of fake currency notes amounting to Tk 75,000 from Gopalpur in Shibganj upazila on Friday, reports UNB.
The arrestee was identified as Shafiullah, 23, son of Mansur of the village.
Tipped off, a team of police conducted a drive in the village and arrested him from his house along with the forged note of Tk 1,000 denomination around 11 am.
A case was filed in this connection with Shibganj Police Station.
