Faruq Hossain of the National Tennis Complex came from behind to stun favourite Md Ishtiaq of BKSP in the final of boys’ singles under-16 event of the National Junior Tennis Championship. Faruq won the match 5-7, 6-3, 6-3 in the final at the National Tennis Complex (NTC) in the capital yesterday.
The girls’ under-16 title went to Afrana Islam Priti of BKSP who defeated her teammate Popy Akhtar 6-4, 6-0 in a what it looked to be a one sided final.

Hasan and Alvi Tahmid of NTC 6-2, 6-0 in the final. Faruq by virtue of winning the doubles title, he secured a double crown in the boys; undr-16 group.
Alvi Tahmid, however, showed his mettle in the boys’ singles under-12 event beating Rumman Hossain of BKSP 6-3, 6-2. Etty Akhtar of BKSP bagged the girls’ singles under-12 title when she defeated Zerin Sultana also of BKSP 6-0, 6-0.
The boys’ singles under-15 group final was played between two opponents outside Dhaka. Shakib of Zafar Imam Tennis Complex, Rajshahi, inflicted a 6-3, 6-2 defeat on Rakib Hossain of Brahmanbaria. Popy Akhtar did not hesitate to down Syed Elsa of Mymesningh 6-2, 6-2 in the girls’ singles under-14 final.
Bangladesh Tennis Federation (BTF) advisor Golam Morshed distributed prizes as chief guest. BTF vice-president Mohammad Ali Deen and general secretary Khurshid Anwar were also present on the occasion.
