2 shot dead in Feni over land dispute

Two people, including a schoolgirl, were shot to death and three others sustained bullet wounds in an attack by rivals over a land dispute at Mahipal of Feni town yesterday night, reports UNB.
The deceased were identified as Mainuddin, 50, and his niece Aklima Akhtar, 15.
Locals said Mainuddin of Mahifal Chowdhurybari had long been at loggerheads with Chowdhury clan of the area over the ownership of 62 decimals of land.
As a sequel of the dispute, men of Chowdhury clan fired around 50 gunshots indiscriminately around 8pm, leaving five people injured. The injured were rushed to Feni Sadar Hospital where doctors declared Mainuddin and Aklima dead.
Bullet-hit Maruf, 6, Saiful Islam, 36, and Alauddin, 35, were sent to Chittagong Medical College Hospital for better treatment, said Dr Fazle Kabir of the hospital.
Officer-in-charge of Feni Model Police Station Mahbub Morshed said they arrested four people in connection with the incident.
