JCD leader held in Jessore
Police arrested a local leader of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) from Health Complex More area in Bagharpara upazila of Jessore district on Wednesday night, reports UNB. The arrestee was identified as Nazmul Al Mamun, president of Bagharpara upazila unit of JCD. Chayaruddin Ahmed, officer-in-charge of Bagharpara Police Station, said tipped-off, a team of police conducted a drive in the area and arrested Mamun at about 10:30 pm.
There was an arrest warrant against Mamun in a case, added the OC.

BNP rebel candidate expelled

BNP expelled its rebel mayoral candidate Alhaj Mofiz Uddin in Bhaluka municipality on Wednesday. BNP has nominated Hatem Ali Khan for the mayoral post; but BNP leader and ex-mayor Alhaj Mofiz Uddin Sarker has remained firm on his decision to contest for the top post defying the party decision. As Mofiz Uddin, elected mayor twice before, was denied party nomination he remained stubborn to run as an independent candidate, sources said. He was warned on several occasions to withdraw his candidature, but he did not withdraw in support of the party nominated candidate and has been continuing campaign. “He has been expelled from all forums of BNP,” said Fakruddin Ahmed Bachhu, president of BNP Bhaluka upazila unit.

Drug peddlers held with gun
JAMALPUR: Detective Branch (DB) of police arrested three drug peddlers with shatter gun and Indian made wine in Islampur upazila of the district early yesterday, reports BSS. The arrestees are Motiyar Pramanik, 42, son of Nurul Haque, Md Shah Jamal,28, son of Abdul Barek Sheikh and Md Samsul Mirza, 25, son of Abul Mirza all are from Dighalkandi village in Gaibandha district. Police sources said acting on a tip off, a team of DB police raided Guthail Bazar area and arrested them. Police recovered 312 bottles of Indian made wine, one shatter gun, seven rounds of bullet and an engine driven trawler. Superintendent of Police, Md Nizam Uddin said the arrested persons are member of inter district drug smuggler.A case was registered with Islampur police station in this connection.
