Hectic campaign is going on in the districts across the country ahead of municipal polls, scheduled for December 30. Candidates are making lofty promises to electorates for the development of their respective areas. They are adopting every possible way to appease the voters of their localities. In Mymensingh, five candidates contesting for of Muktagacha municipal mayral post have taken oath that they will not involve in corruption and prevent the menace if they are voted to the post in upcoming polls. They have put forth their plans to materialise their promises. The candidates are Abdul Hye Akanda (AL), Shahidul Islam Shahid (BNP), Ataur Rahman Lelin (JP-Ershad), Shariful Islam Biplob of Jasad and Debashish Ghosh Bappi (AL-rebel).
In Noakhali, campaign for municipal election has gained momentum with candidates adopting possible means to attract voters. AL candidate and sitting mayor Akther Hossain Faisal and mayoral BNP candidate Jahir uddin Harun and Islamic Sasantantro Andolon Jakir Hossain are moving door to door to woo voters. They are pledging to develop the municipality roads, construct culverts, and establish schools and madrsas. But some voters have opined that they will cast their vote to the person who will solve traffic jam and improve the drainage system in the town. The Chowmohani municipality now wears a festive look as colorful posters and banners are all around to attract voters.
In Jessore, SM Saifur Rahman, rebel mayoral aspirant for Chaugachha Municipality in Jessore yesterday alleged that Awami League nominated candidate Noor Uddin–al- Mamun Himel is being forming committees to rig the election.
“Killers of noted politicians of the locality such as UP chairman Jillur Rahman Mintu, Ashraf Hossain Asha and BNP leader Mosharraf Hossain have been included in the committees,” said one mayoral aspirant. The allegations were made at a press conference at Jessore Press Club yesterday. In Faridpur, the district administration and other organs of the government are firm to hold the ensuing municipality election to be held on December 30 fair, impartial and peaceful said DC Sardar Sharafat Ali in a view exchange meeting with the mayoral candidates held at Boalmari upazila auditorium yesterday, reports BSS. The DC and police super Md Jamil Hassan urged upon the candidates to follow the rules and regulations and to extend cooperation to the administration to observe the duties and responsibilities.
