A journalist of Rangpur based local daily Juger Alo was killed by unidentified people last night in Dharmadesh area of Rangpur city.
Local people found the body of the victim, Utsho Rahman, yesterday morning tied to a tree in Dharmadesh, opposite to the Paddy Research Station, and the face was covered with a cap.
They informed the local police and a police team sent the body to Rangpur Medical College Hospital for postmortem.
The body had several marks of injury by sharp weapons and a cloth was found stuffed inside the mouth of the victims, said sources.
The killers took away the reporters motorcycle, camera and mobile phone.
Police are yet to find any clue over the murder or recover the items.
Abu Taleb, News Editor of Daily Juger Alo, said Utsho had informed him over mobile phone on Wednesday night at around 10-30PM that he was busy and could not come to office.
The reason behind the murder could not be known immediately, the OC said.
Meanwhile, police detained Utshow’s friend Moksedul Islam for interrogation.
A case was filed in this connection.
Meanwhile, journalists formed a human chain in front of the Deputy Commissioner’s Office demanding the arrest of Utsho’s killers.
A three-day programme including black badge wearing, seat-in and submitting memorandums to the district, divisional and police administration were announced.
