A total of 23 matches were decided in different age groups of the National Junior Tennis Championship at the National Tennis Complex (NTC) in the capital yesterday.
Md Ishtiaq of BKSP sealed a semifinal berth in boys’ under-16 event when he eliminated his teammate Mehdi 6-2, 6-3. Naimul of BKSP also reached the last four stages beating Azizul Hakim of NTC 4-6, 6-2, 6-0. Swadhin Hosain of Manikganj downed Arnab Shah of BKSP while Farooq Hossain of NTC defeated Hridoy Hossain of BKSP 6-1, 6-1 in the other two quarterfinals.
Srabanti Deb Aarpita of Brahmanbaria beat Somaya Hossain of Manikganj 6-2, 6-2, Srabani Biswas of Gopalganj beat Raisa Haider of Barisal 6-3, 6-3 and Popy Akhtar of BKSP beat Rinvi Akhtar of BKSP 6-0, 6-0 before moving into girls singles under-16 semifinals.
However, Rinvi Akhtar kept her hopes alive in under-14 event when she beat Srabani Biswas of Gopalganj 6-4, 6-0 and Syed Elisa of Mymensingh beat Srabanti Deb of Brahmanbaria to qualify for semifinals.
