Mirza Farid Ahmed Milu, senior vice-president of Bangladesh Hockey Federation, was killed in a road accident in the capital yesterday. He was 70.
The veteran hockey organiser was coming to Maulana Bhasani Hockey Stadium around 2.30 pm from his Uttara residence to watch the Victory Day Hockey final. Eyewitnesses said that a speedy bus pushed aside him while he was crossing the main road. Later some people took him to Apollo Hospital at Bashundhara where he breathed his last at 5pm.
He left behind his wife, one son and two daughters to mourn his death.
Farid Ahmed Milu, who was an international hockey umpire, was associated with the Bangladesh Hockey Federation in different capacities since the inception of the federation after the liberation. By profession he was a banker. He worked for Sonali Bank for several years before joining City Bank at the fag end of his banking career.
He used to play as a back and he represented the then East Pakistan between 1962 and 1969. He visited different countries as Bangladesh team manager.
