PGCB undertakes 2 projects to improve power supply in Ctg

Deal signed with Chinese company

The Power Grid Company of Bangladesh (PGCB) has undertaken two major projects, aiming to improve the power supply situation in the port city within the next 2 years.
To improve the electricity supply situation in Chittagong, a high powered substation using the state of the art technology and a nine kilometer long underground transmission line are going to be established at the port city at a cost of Tk 293 crore.
Two separate agreements were signed between PGCB and China based Jiang Su Etern Co Ltd in that regard during a simple ceremony held at a city hotel on Wednesday night.
Mohammad Ashraf Hossain, company secretary of PGCB and Hua Jie Jack, chief representative of Jiang Su Etern Co Ltd, signed on the agreements on behalf of their respective companies.
PGCB Managing Director Masum Al Biruni, Executive Director (Project and Development) Chowdhury Alamgir Hossain, Chief Engineer and Project Director Mahbub Ahmed andAtshushi Komuro, General Manager of Hitachi were present at the occasion. The projects are taken under the PGCB initiative of ‘National Power Transmission Network Development’.
As per the agreement, Jiang Su Etern Co Ltd will establish a 230/132 KV substation at Shikalbaha in Chittagong.
The substation which will be constructed with the latest Japanese technology will be one of the largest with 23 bays.
The Chinese company will have to handover the substation to PGCB within the next 24 months.
Japanese tech machineries giant ‘Hitachi’ is given the contract for supplying machineries for the substation. A total of Tk 199.61 crore will be spent in constructing the substation.
Under another agreement, a six kilometer long double circuit underground transmission line will be established from Agrabad to Rampur of Chittagong.
The existing three km long transmission line from Khulshi to Halishahar will be taken into underground and will be connected with Rampur substation.
A total of Tk 93.52 crore will be spent for the purpose.
