Jingle all the way

Jingle all the way

Christmas always brings a smile on one’s face when you think of all the merriment, specially the sumptuous cakes and cookies and age-old carols like ‘Jingle Bells’ or ‘Silent Night’, which many of us know by heart.

The Weekend Independent caught up with actor Kalyan Corraya, who is currently working on his 4th movie, ‘Mukhosh Manush’ (The Fake), to learn about how the popular actor usually celebrates Christmas.

“I love Christmas and celebrate it with gusto every year with friends and family. We usually go to church late at night on Christmas Eve and wait for the clock to strike 12, so that we can all wish each other. The elderly give us blessings. Some people go for morning mass on Christmas Day. Us, youngsters, we also go to church, but we attend the late morning mass. We take lunch at home with our family and all day, we exchange gifts. Local youths of the area go from door to door and sing jingles (carols) and get money, which they spend on arranging community picnics or parties. Like I said, it is a time to celebrate and we do so in every way possible.”

Christmas cheers and joy are not only restricted among the Christian community these days, other people, too, enjoy the holiday in a festive mood.

Many bakeries, restaurants and hotels around the country offer special Christmas items and fun events, especially for children. Christmas cakes, gingerbread cookies, gift items, brightly decorated Xmas trees and Santas seem to be everywhere in the days leading up to ‘Boro Din’ (big day).

Upscale hotels like the Westin, Pan Pacific Sonargaon, Radisson Blu, Regency, Amari have planned special festival packages for the little ones and their parents, including delicious buffets and a day of fun and games.

“We have arranged a Christmas kids’ party, Santa Claus will be there to keep the kids entertained. There will be snacks and lots of fun-filled activities for the children,” said Al Amin, assistant director of sales at the Westin in Gulshan.

Meanwhile, the home ministry has announced that there will be strict security at churches and places of celebration to ensure a smooth and joyous Christmas festival.
