ADC’s house looted
Gaibandha: Robbers looted valuables from the residence of the additional deputy commissioner (ADC- revenue) in the district town early yesterday, reports UNB..
Quoting witnesses, police said a gang of robbers stormed the house of ADC Aleya Begum in the dead of night by cutting the grill of window of the house.
The bandits looted five tolas of gold ornaments, cash Tk50,000 and other valuables from the house.
Officer-in-charge of Sadar Police Station Osman Ali confirmed the incident.
Three rice traders fined
Benapole: A mobile court here on Tuesday fined three rice traders Tk30,000 for using non-biodegradable plastic sacks instead of jute sacks for rice packaging at Trimohoni in Keshabpur upazila, reports UNB.
The mobile court, led by Upazila Nirbahi Officer Sharif Raihan Kabir, conducted a drive in the area in the evening and fined Sonali Rice Mill Tk20,000, Agrani Traders Tk 5,000 and Jani Enterprise Tk5,000 for using plastic sacks.
Sharif Raihan Kabir said the three traders were fined for violating the government order of using jute sacks.
Nine shops gutted by fire
Jhenidah: At least nine shops were gutted by a fire that broke out at Nangolband Bazar in Shailkupa upazila early yesterday, reports UNB..
Locals said the fire originated from an electric short circuit at a shop around 1pm and it soon engulfed eight other adjoining shops.
On information, a unit of firefighters of Shailkupa Fire Station rushed to the spot and doused the flame after two hours of frantic efforts, said station officer Mahfuzur Rahman.
The affected shop owners claimed that the estimated losses caused by the fire would be worth of Tk20lakh.
Youth electrocuted
Jessore: A young man died from electrocution inBostapotti area of Jessore town early Wednesday, reports UNB.
The deceased was identified as Alim Hossain,22, son of Jinnat Hossain, a resident of Kasba Kanthaltala area.
Mafijur Rahman, uncle of the deceased, said Alim came in contact with a live electric wire while he was pasting posters in favour of Awami League-supported candidate in the area at about 12:30 am.
He was admitted to Jessore Medical College Hospital where he succumbed to his injures at about 1:15am.
