Three arrested over charge of killing

Police arrested three youths on charge of killing Krishak Dal leader Nazrul Islam allegedly by ruling party men at Adarshagram area in Matiranga upazila of Khagrachhari district on Tuesday.
The arrested were identified as Mohammad Sabuj, Mohammad Hasam and Mir Hossain.
Confirming the arrest, Officer In charge of Matiranga police station Sahadat Hossain Titu said following a case filed by victim’s wife Sarifa Bagum police in separate drives arrested them from Adarshagram and adjoining areas on Tuesday night. The body was handed over to the victim’s family members after autopsy at Khagrachhari Adhunik Sadar Hospital yesterday noon.
However, ex-parliament member and president of Khagrachhari district BNP Wadud Bhuiyan at a press conference held at Khagrachhari press club yesterday blamed the ruling party men for the killing centering Matiranga municipal election. He demanded the army deployment for fair municipal election.General secretary and senior vice-president of district BNP Prabin Chandra Chakma and general secretary Abu Yousuf Chowdhuary were present, among others, in the press conference.
The president of Matiranga upazila Awami League and the Awami League candidate of Matiranga municipality mayoral post Samshul Haque denied the allegation of any involvement of his party men in the murder. Earlier, on Tuesday night, a local Jatiyatabadi Krishak Dal leader was chopped to death by criminals in Adarshagram area of Matiranga upazila in Khagrachhari yesterday.
The deceased was identified as Nazrul Islam, 52, vice-president upazila unit of Krishak Dal, the former wing of BNP. Sources at Matiraga Health Complex said Nazrul came under attack by a group of criminals  in the area around 8:30pmon his way home after joining electioneering in favour of BNP-backed candidate in the municipal election.
