Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan yesterday said activists of Islami Chhatra Shibir, the student wing of Jamaat-e-Islami, have been tying to emerge as militants but they cannot due to the active role of law enforcement agencies, reports UNB.
“If we analyse the background of the arrested militants, we’ll find their roots in Jamaat-Shibir in most cases,” he said while addressing a views-exchange meeting with Alem-Ulama at Krishibid Institute at Farmgate in the city.
Asaduzzaman said the patrons of Al Qaida, Taliban, Ansarullah Bangla Team and JMB are the same. “When countries like Pakistan, Afghanistan, Iraq, Libya, Syria and Egypt were becoming self-reliant, they [patrons of militants] created obstacles to destroy the countries,” he added.
They [patrons of militants] are trying to establish the existence of IS in Bangladesh to destroy the country as we have now been advancing towards self-sufficiency, the Home Minister said.
He called upon the Alem-Ulama to come forward against militancy. “As it’s the country of Alem-Ulama, no one can harm Bangladesh until the Alem-Ulama are alive,” he said.
Food Minister Quamrul Islam, DMP Commissioner Md Asaduzzaman Mia and Maulana Farid Uddin Masud, among others, addressed the meeting.
