US Ambassador in Dhaka Marcia Bernicat yesterday appreciated the ‘amazing’ and ‘continued cooperation’ by the police and other authorities here for foreigners’ safety, reports UNB.
She, however, said security is something that no one can ever feel ‘completely satisfied’ about that.
“We keep working together,” said the US Ambassador while talking to reporters at the Foreign Ministry after his meeting with State Minister for Foreign Affairs M Shahriar Alam and Foreign Secretary M Shahidul Haque separately.
Bernicat also referred to Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan who has made a ‘very important’ announcement over protecting community ahead of the Christmas and New Year celebrations. “It’s a constant effort, and we’ll keep working together.”
Responding to a question, the US envoy said they will have a number of ‘interesting and important’ visits by the US official New Year.
She, however, did not disclose the dates of the incoming visits mentioning that they want to make sure that the visits under the ‘best possible conditions.’
On Rohingya issue, Bernicat said the US has ‘steadily’ talked to Myanmar authorities on the issue and they will continue to do so.
“Everyone I met yesterday (Tuesday in Cox’s Bazar), I made that point…Rohingyas should be able to go home with safety to carry out their livelihoods,” she said appreciating Bangladesh’s efforts.
