Stocks fall on profit-booking

BSS

Stock markets saw marginal loss on yesterday that broke the past two sessions' gaining streak while investors were busy in profit booking, reports BSS.
The broader DSEX index of Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE), which closed last session near 4600 points mark, finished marginally lower at 4588.74 yesterday with similar fall in the two selective indices. The blue-chip DS30 ended at 1740.81 and the Shariah DSES at 1102.42.
The DSEX hit the 4600 level in intraday trading, but could not hold the strength as investors prompted to book profit. However, market did not witness much transaction as sellers apparently took cautious stand in offloading their securities.
As a result, daily trade value fell below Tk 500-crore mark again with over 35 per cent fall and settled at Tk 394.43 crore. The trade volume was also nearly 16 per cent down at 9.66 crore shares.
Among the major industry news was the government's plan for mobilising $100 million from the capital market for funding in the power sector in coming year. The news, however, had little impact on the market.
All the major sectors including cement, fuel and power, food and allied and mutual fund decreased on the day when the major lagging issues were Progressive Life, Meghna Petroleum, Samata Leather, Asia Pacific Insurance and Green Delta Life. The major advancing issues were Miracle Industries, Pragati Insurance, GR Ball Pen, Apex Spinning and Libra Infusion when banking saw little gain.
Titas Gas topped the turnover list followed by Beximco, Emerald Oil, ACI, Beximco Pharma, Saif Power, Quasem Drycell and KDS Accessories when market was tilted to buyers, with 153 issues declining against 117 gaining securities.
Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) also finished yesterday in red, with the major CSEX index closing 7.82 points down at 8508.77.
Like DSE, most of the issues traded on CSE closed lower on the day when 91 securities gained and 110 incurred loss.
The total trade value, however, rose to Tk 32.75 crore from Tuesday's Tk 25.88 crore when the volume fell to 85 lakh shares from 89 lakh shares of the last session.
